Cofondator și Președinte AFIST

Nicoleta is a biomedical engineer, and she has been working at ELI-NP (Extreme Light Infrastructure-nuclear physics) since 2018. In 2021, she started coordinating the activity of the X-ray Imaging Laboratory - XIL. She graduated from the Faculty of Medical Engineering and has a master's degree in Medical Informatics Systems from the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. program in Physics and Medical Imaging. She has coordinated the entire X-ray imaging laboratory implementation, leading the different phases of the project for construction, development, and scientific program integration. Her main research interests include X-ray phase-contrast imaging for medical and industrial applications. Together with the XIL laboratory team and with specialists from John Hopkins University, she is working to develop a new ultrahigh sensivity technique for diagnosing early-stage breast cancer at low radiation doses using laser-based X-ray sources.  Other research areas of interest for her are X-ray source metrology, mean glandular dose calculation, and studies to decrease the amount of dose used in medical X-ray exposures, as well as fundamental physics studies with helical X-ray beams. Nicoleta believes in the power of example, education, civic implication, professionalism, hard work, and respect. Through AFIST, she wants to create a strong, inclusive, diverse community to support young people and develop technical fields that are extremely important for Romania.
